WHEEL PATTERN GUIDE
HOW TO CHECK YOUR TRAILER'S WHEEL PATTERN
A wheel (bolt) pattern has two numbers: how many lug studs there are, and the diameter of the circle they sit on. "5 on 4½" means 5 studs on a 4½" circle. This is also called the bolt circle or PCD (pitch circle diameter), and it is often listed in millimeters.
How to measure a 5-lug wheel
Measure from the center of one stud to the outside (back) edge of a stud across from it. Skip the stud next to it.
Common patterns
• 5 on 4½" (5 x 114.3 mm), "Ford" pattern: the most common trailer pattern. Also older Ford, Dodge/Chrysler, and AMC cars.
• 5 on 4¾" (5 x 120.65 mm), "Chevy" pattern: older Chevrolet and GM cars, Corvette.
• 5 on 5½" (5 x 139.7 mm), "Ford truck" pattern: older Ford F-100/F-150, Dodge Ram 1500 2WD, older Jeep CJ.
Chevy also uses 5 on 5" on some vehicles.
Our trailers commonly use the 5 on 4½" pattern. Older trailers may use any of the patterns above. Not sure? Call (573) 621-4393.
